Efficient & Convenient Air Conditioning for your Commercial Property: Packaged Rooftop Unit.
Our products can offer quality air on your property all year round. You require a practical yet powerful air unit to provide efficient air conditioning to your building. You can find the perfect one with us.
We recommend a packaged rooftop unit to provide air conditioning for small to medium commercial properties. A commercial rooftop unit is very practical for this.
These self-contained units can reduce heating and cooling costs and improve energy-efficient use. Learn more about commercial rooftop units with Protech Inc!
A Peek Inside Your Rooftop Air Unit: How They Work.
A commercial rooftop unit (RTU for short) is a compact air conditioning device located on a building’s rooftop. The unit distributes air through ductwork in designated areas.
In bigger air handlers, chillers and coolers are installed apart on the roof. On the other hand, packaged rooftop units are self-contained. Because they’re compact, RTUs are a lot easier to purchase, install and maintain.
Not all RTUs have the same elements. We’ll show you the most common types of packaged rooftop units and how they work so you can get yours.
Fresh Air-Only Unit
This RTU operates exclusively with fresh air intake. It provides heating and cooling with electrical coils, depending on the demand.
After the air passes through a filter, the coils heat or cools the air with the help of a refrigeration system for cooling and a heat pump or gas burner for heating.
Once the air is at the desired temperature, it passes through a centrifugal fan in charge of pulling the fresh air in and pushing the conditioned air through the ductwork where it finally reaches the rooms.
This unit recirculates the warm return air and mixes it with the fresh air intake. By the time the new air gets to the heating coil, it is warmer which reduces the heating load. For cooling purposes, all of the returned air is rejected.
This unit can’t fully reuse the rejected air due that it contains significant amounts of CO2. A return air damper regulates the rejected air intake.
However, this small difference can boost heating and reduce costs, especially during winter when the heat demand is much bigger.
Heat Wheel Unit
A heat wheel rooftop unit counts with an internal heat wheel. This unit is even more energy-efficient and cost-effective.
The heat wheel exchanges excess heat from the return air with the fresh air intake preventing the two air streams from mixing.
Some of these units can recirculate air and some others can’t. In a recirculating unit, the return air has the option of either getting mixed with the fresh air intake or being rejected.
